Treatment of Cecal Bloat in a Rabbit
本站 2025/2/11 15:03:50
This 1-year-old rabbit suddenly developed severe health issues. Its owner noticed a complete loss of appetite, reduced fecal output, and excessive drooling. The owner was understandably worried and immediately brought the rabbit to our clinic. After an initial examination, we suspected cecal bloat and gastrointestinal stasis, among other potential issues. Further tests and X-rays confirmed our diagnosis. We quickly implemented a targeted treatment plan to help the rabbit recover.

Treatment Process
Symptoms:
The rabbit suddenly stopped eating, had reduced fecal output, and was drooling excessively, appearing very weak and uncomfortable.

Initial Diagnosis:
Through initial examination, we suspected cecal bloat, gastrointestinal stasis, and potential dental disease. These factors seemed to be contributing to the rabbit's symptoms.

Diagnosis Confirmation:
X-ray imaging revealed severe cecal bloating and food accumulation in the stomach. We advised the owner to be cautious when reviewing the images, as they could be unsettling.

Treatment Plan:
Once the diagnosis was confirmed, we quickly began a tailored treatment plan:

  • Administering gastrointestinal motility stimulants to help restore normal gut function
  • Correcting hydration levels to ensure proper fluid balance
  • Providing pain relief to ease discomfort
  • Offering frequent high-fiber hay powder to aid digestion and relieve gastrointestinal stasis.
Treatment Outcome
After 3 days of hospitalization, the rabbit's bloating symptoms significantly decreased, and its appetite gradually returned. The rabbit regained energy, and the owner was relieved to see it getting back to its normal, lively self. The rabbit successfully recovered and was discharged.
